More About On-Line Payments

Why?

With the spread of technology and the unreliablilty of postal services an increasing number of advertisers are now submitting copy by email. While this makes the actual editing process easier this is more than compensated by the additional workload involved in invoicing and chasing payments. Plus, of course, postal problems mean that cheques do go astray.

To deal with these problems we have signed up with a secure payment service provider so that emailed ads can be prepaid using Maestro (formerly Switch). This is Nochex

How?

As our main ISP imposes restrictions on commercial use we have created a dedicated "e-payment" site at efn.bravehost.com (which is where you are now). Here you select you the type of advertisement that you wish to place and upload your copy (max file size 500 Kilobytes). Once the copy is sent you will be taken to the Nochex website in order to make your payment.

This service is only available for use against bank and credit card accounts domiciled in the United Kingdom.

With this service a session is opened on the payment provider's secure web server. They process your transaction and transfer the money to our account. We do not see your card details.

Cost?

We pay a small charge per transaction and there is no additional cost to you if paying with a debit card. Please see below for issues over using credit cards.

Because of the bank charges we do not currently offer this service for on-line magazine subscriptions or EFA membership. If you wish to pay for these with Nochex please contact us for payment instructions. In these cases we will need to make an additional charge of 50p to cover costs.

What Will I See on my Statement?

The transaction will be in the name of Nochex Ltd.

Can I Pay by Phone?

No, for your security the transaction can only be processed through Nochex's secure web site.

Credit Cards

During early 2007 a number of credit card issuers identified a technicality which they claimed permitted them to charge credit card transactions processed by Nochex as cash advances. Nochex have told us that this is now resolved and all transactions after 13 April 2007 should be treated as purchases. Nochex have asked that they be advised direct if anybody experiences further problems. As any further charges are a mistake on the part of your credit card issuer you will need to approach them for a refund.

Why Is Nochex the Default?

Simply that Nochex charges are modest and it is very easy to integrate into our web site.

What About PayPal?

They are more expensive and we would have to put our own prices up too much to compensate.

What About Google Checkout?

This service is designed for use with the sale of tangible products and does not integrate easily with our web site. Also customers would be required to register with Google before making a payment.
